Here’s a peek at next week!

Reading: Daily 5 rotations and guided reading groups – We will continue to review and reassess standards.

Math: Students will have the opportunity to review various math concepts through math centers. We will also reassess standards, as necessary.  

Writing Workshop: The students will be working on various projects during their writing time for the remainder of the school year.

Social Studies: Review/Reassess – We will also be working on making memory books.

Positive Discipline: Students will continue to work on solving problems with others. We will use the text “Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun” to discuss how we should treat others who may be different than us.

Calling All Field Day Volunteers!

Be on the lookout for information regarding Field Day volunteers for our K-2 Field Day on May 11^th.

End of the Year Celebration

We will serve lunch to the kids (Chick-fil-A boxes) and then we will have stations set up outdoors or in each classroom for the classes to rotate around. There will be fun activities planned at each station – Dance, Limbo, Outdoor Fun, Popsicle/Karaoke, Minute to Win It, Beach Ball Autograph. We are asking for a donation from each family to help us to pay for the food and supplies needed to make this party successful. If each family is willing to contribute $7 towards the party, we should be able to cover the cost of every child. Please send in your donation (we can only accept cash) in an envelope to your child's teacher labeled "End of Year Party" by May 12^th. Thank you for helping make our End of the Year Celebration great for the kids!

Parent Survey

In an effort to improve system practices, Oconee County Schools is conducting a parent survey. We value your opinion and ask that you take the time to complete this survey. The web survey will be available until May 12, 2017.

Our field trip to Bear Hollow Zoo is scheduled for Wednesday, May 3^rd from 9:15-1:00. If your child does not have a permission form turned in, they will be unable to attend. We are asking that lunches be sent in a disposable bag with items that can be tossed or recycled after lunch. If you did not let me know that your child will need a lunch from the cafeteria, please send them with a lunch. Thank you for your help!

We have snack every day. Please encourage your student to pack a snack each day. Lunch time can be a long time to wait to eat.

Phonics: review

Reading: We will be reviewing skills already covered this year through Daily 5 groups and other activities. 

L.Arts:  We will review skills already covered this year. 

Writing Workshop: Students will review and write about their opinion of something. What are my reasons to support my opinion? What should I include in my writing?

Math: Students will continue a week long project related to goods and services. They will have the opportunity to design a company name and product, create ads, and even a business card. On the final day we will share our ads/commercials.

Social Studies: Students will begin to learn about who are consumers and what it means to have scarcity. Review producers and consumers and how both sets of people are important to each other. How do consumers choices effect producers? 

Positive Discipline: How do I solve problems with my friend? What do I like about myself?

“Wheel Rise Above Cancer, Working Together”

Relay for Life

Please join us on Friday, April 28^th from 6:00pm-12:00am at Oconee County High School as we work together to help end cancer. There will be booths and live music for all ages!

Phonics Family Words: helpless, useless, careless, playful, restful, hopeful, fastest, newest, smartest, sillier

Phonics: review

Reading: Daily 5 with emphasis on beginning, middle, and ending, finding evidence in text to support answer and retelling the story. What was the author's purpose? This week we will be reviewing skills we have already learned (comprehension strategies, parts of information text, things to learn from pictures, questioning strategies).We will also review suffixes, story elements, cause and effect, problem and solution. 

L.Arts:  We will review skills already covered this year. 

Writing Workshop: Students will review and begin a new small moment piece of writing. What do I feel comfortable sharing with others? What is the difference between a watermelon and seed story? Why do I want to tell seed stories? How can I hook my reader?

Math: Students will begin a week long project related to goods and services. They will have the opportunity to create a project to sell, name their business, create ads, and even a business card. On the final day we will try to convince our audience to "buy" our product.

Social Studies: Students will begin to learn about goods and services that people provide for each other as well as what producers and consumers do. Who are producers and consumers? How does each person play a role in the lives of the other? What goods do we buy? What are some services we use? 

Positive Discipline: We will continue to model ways to solve our problems independently and review the difference between tattling and telling.

Rocket Relay

Our school will have our very own Relay event much like Relay for Life. On Friday, April 21^st, all first graders are asked to wear INSERT COLOR HERE. Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing everyone in COLOR on Friday!

MAP Math

Our class will be taking the last MAP Math test for this school year on Tuesday , April 18^th from 8:00-10:00. To help your child prepare for this test, please be sure your child gets a good night’s rest and has a good breakfast the morning of the test. Testing will begin promptly at 8:00, so be sure to have your child here on time. I can’t wait to see all of the progress made!
