Responsive Classroom/Positive Discipline: Community building; Zones of Regulation - What might it look like if someone was in the blue, yellow, green, or red zones? How can I show contribution?

First Grade PBL
As a part of our grade level service learning project, we are collecting soda tabs for the Ronald McDonald House all year starting in October. Send tabs in at any time in a plastic bag, and we will do the rest!

Interested in donating to United Way? Here are some opportunities to do so at RBES!
Students and Teachers
Buy a Chick-Fil-A chicken biscuit.  Orders will be taken October 10th – 12th.  Chicken biscuits will be delivered to your child’s room on Friday, the 13th at 8:15. Cost of biscuits - $4.00. Proceeds less the cost of biscuits will be given to United Way. Order forms will be sent home in Daily Folders.
Students
Pay $1.00 to wear a hat to school.  Date – Friday, October 13th
Buy a special RBES item from the School Store to support United Way the week of October 16th.
Parents
Water for sale the day of the DA$H - $1.00

NOHS Homecoming Parade
NOHS will have a Homecoming parade, bonfire, and food trucks on 10/19 from 6-8pm in the NOHS gravel lot. The parade will be held at 6:30pm along Titan Way, and the bonfire/community pep rally will begin at 7:15pm. The following food trucks will be there: The Varsity, Mac the Cheese, and Kona Ice.  Follow the link below to pre-order food:

Reading: Daily 5 implementation with emphasis on asking and answering questions (thick and thin) about details in texts - What is the main idea? How can I retell the story? (5 Finger Retell, Fist to Five) What is the author’s purpose? (PIE - Persuade, Inform, Entertain)
Mentor Sentence: “Salma and Lily were best friends at school.” -The Sandwich Swap
L.Arts: Sentence level context clues for meanings of words or phrases; Understand and use conjunctions (FANBOYS - for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so)
Writing Workshop: Personal Narratives - Publishing our “small moment” stories like our mentor texts; “Show What You Know” narrative writing post sample
PBL: What is the Ronald McDonald House Charity? How can we show contribution and kindness to the RMH and the patients who stay there?
Math: Numeration - Place Value (patterns in 100 chart); making ten bundles, one more/one less; ten more/ten less; representing numbers using base ten blocks, distinguish numbers as tens and ones, and represent numbers as tallies. We will also continue to explore the importance of organizing data in a chart/graph so it can be easily read by others.
